Arsenal told to forget transfer bid

Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko

Manchester City have told Arsenal not to even consider making a bid for striker Edin Dzeko, according to the Daily Mail.

Arsene Wenger is considering other attacking options after Liverpool failed to drop their stance that Luis Suarez is not for sale.

But while the Frenchman was considering turning his attention to the City forward, who was known as a ‘Super-Sub’ under Roberto Martinez last season, new boss Manuel Pellegrini has told the Gunners not to bother making a bid.

The Chilean has been impressed by Dzeko, who has repaid his new manager for the faith shown in him. One reason Pellegrini decided not to follow up interest in Uruguayan forward Edinson Cavani, then with Napoli, was due to his belief in Dzeko.

Wenger is keen to add to his striking options, but has already missed out on Gonzalo Higuain this summer, who joined Napoli instead. Now Dzeko looks set to join Wayne Rooney and Luis Suarez on the list of Gunners targets that are not for sale.

The French manager may still bid for Dzeko and Suarez, but he has also asked for a scouting report on Swansea’s star forward Michu. The Spaniard scored 18 league goals last season, and could be the next forward Wenger turns his attention to.

Who should Wenger sign this summer? Can he convince City to sell Dzeko?
