Arsenal turn attention to Chelsea ace

Chelsea's Juan MataArsenal are set to make a stunning move for Chelsea playmaker Juan Mata, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

Despite being one of the Blues’ star names, the Spaniard’s future at Stamford Bridge has been the subject of much doubt since the arrival of Jose Mourinho.

‘The Special One’ is thought to see the impish attacker as expendable, and even offered him in exchange for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.

This has alerted Arsene Wenger, who is in the market for big name players this summer.

The Gunners chief has been linked with the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Marouane Fellaini and Luis Suarez of late, and is said to be ready to spend big to mount a serious title challenge.

He sees Mata as somebody who could slot seamlessly into his first-team, and deliver the sort of performances needed to push the Londoners to the summit of English football.

Arsenal were pipped to the 25-year-old’s signature by Chelsea in 2011, but have remained keen on the ex-Valencia man.

Although Mourinho has scrapped reports that Mata could be sold, the Portuguese coach has a reputation for his ruthless streak with big name players.
