Arsenal are set to miss out on transfer target Max Meyer who is in talks with Crystal Palace, according to Sky Sports.

What's the story?

The 22-year-old is a product of the Schakle youth academy after joining the club in 2009 and he has gone on to make 145 appearances in the Bundesliga.

However, the midfielder and Schalke's Sporting Director Christian Heidel had a very public falling-out recently with the player accusing him of bullying, and Meyer left the club at the end of the season as a free agent.

Arsenal had been linked with signing the German international but now it appears he has decided to join Crystal Palace who are confident of completing a deal, according to the report.

Arsenal won't miss him

Meyer is undoubtedly a talent but he's not a player that Arsenal need at the moment.

He's another technically gifted, diminutive player that epitomised the Arsene Wenger era, but which new manager Unai Emery is trying to move away from.

The new boss has added more tenacity in midfield with Lucas Torreira and Mateo Guendouzi, and even though Meyer was available on a free contract, Emery is better off putting his faith in the existing squad and new additions he has brought in.
