Joe Willock was given another huge chance to impress for Arsenal on Monday night against Sheffield United.

The 20-year-old has been given various first-team opportunities throughout this season and his inclusion in the starting XI at Bramall Lane was his fourth start of the campaign.

He has also played twice in the Europa League, scoring twice, and once in the Carabao Cup, where he netted in the 5-0 thumping of Nottingham Forest.

However, against the Blades, Willock unfortunately wilted.

He was initially deployed as an attacking midfielder behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but was hooked after 45 minutes following a disappointing display.

Per WhoScored, he touched the ball a mere 17 times and made just nine passes throughout the game. All of his nine passes were successful but, still, one would expect that with a single figure statistic.

Willock failed to complete a dribble, did not have a shot on goal, nor did he win an aerial duel.

He was not dispossessed either, while he made one tackle, but this was an anonymous performance from a player who needs to be grabbing every opportunity he is given with both hands.

Of course, the Blades deserve credit, too.

Defensively, Chris Wilder’s side were excellent, shutting down their opponents at every turn and scoring with the one chance they had.

But at the age Willock is, he has to make an impression at every turn and, on Monday evening, he failed to do so as Arsenal fell to a damaging defeat.

It remains to be seen how many more chances he will be given.
