Dani Ceballos' performance for Spain on Saturday shows that he could be effective in a slightly different role for Arsenal if given the chance.

Spain visited Norway for their seventh game of Euro 2020 qualification but despite the best efforts of the Arsenal man, they could only draw 1-1.

However, Ceballos did well in a team that underperformed, despite the fact he played out wide. Transfermarkt shows that he has played on the left wing a total of 19 times in his career.

For the Gunners he has operated as a number ten but with Alexandre Lacazette out injured and Nicolas Pepe struggling for form and goals, Unai Emery could be tempted to mix things up.

In recent times Bukayo Saka has forced his way into the starting line-up and operated on the left flank, but the Spaniard would provide a different option to the pace and skill of the youngster, who has averaged 2.3 successful dribbles per game this season.

Ceballos switching position could also allow the much-maligned Mesut Ozil to come back into his favoured position, having only played once this term, or allow a more defensive midfield trio made up of Lucas Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi and Granit Xhaka to take to the field.

Getting the best out of Aubameyang

It is clear to see that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with 49 goals in 75 games for the Gunners, is Arsenal's most important player, and therefore Emery should build his team around him.

In that sense, it could be useful to fit two natural playmakers into the side in Ceballos and Ozil, but since the former only has two assists so far, an alteration in his role could be beneficial.

Playing on the left against Norway allowed him to roam, cutting onto his right foot when necessary, and with Sead Kolasinac's tendency to bomb forward [evidenced by his average of 3.3 crosses per game for Arsenal], they could strike an effective partnership.

Perhaps more importantly, his five successful long passes in that game show how useful he could be to Aubameyang, as if he can find the Gabon international with the same frequency he should get the ball in dangerous positions, which is what Arsenal want.

Ceballos also achieved one key pass and a pass accuracy of 88%, which shows he can still be careful in possession and adept at creating chances, even when his teammates don't perform to their usual standard.

Having Ozil alongside him could also be ideal for Aubameyang, with the German's career track record of 213 assists suggesting the striker would get his fair share of chances with them in the team.
