On a weekend when video assistant referee has dominated the headlines for all the wrong reasons, Arsenal defender David Luiz has capitalised on the opportunity to secure a few cheap laughs with a cheeky training ground snap.
The 32-year-old recently posted a snap of himself in training doing his best Forest Gump impression – minus the dirt track, pursuit of rock launching troublemakers and leg braces – in what appears to be good old-fashioned foot race between himself and “young boys” Calum Chambers and Rob Holding, who are both eight years his junior.

Hardly famed for his pace, the legitimacy of Luiz’s victory was soon questioned, however, and despite claims that VAR had indeed checked the decision and given it the green light, which means very little nowadays, his success was rapidly unravelled…
Luiz, forever the joker, will travel with Arsenal to face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane tonight. Maybe we’ll see some of his new-found speed in action?
