2016 was a curious and somewhat typically Arsenal year for Arsenal.

It saw the Gunners achieve their highest ever Premier League finish, second place, for over a decade. But rather than celebrations, most found cause for criticism as the unlikeliest of champions, Leicester City, beat them to the top flight crown.

It was a similar case during the first half of the 2016/17 campaign. Barring an opening day defeat to Liverpool, the north Londoners started strongly - but all their good work was undone during the festive period with disappointing results against Everton, Manchester City and Bournemouth.

Regardless of form, league standing or titles, however, Arsenal can always guarantee one thing - gorgeous goals from all over the pitch.

With that in mind and 2017 well underway, we take a look back at Arsenal's five best goals of 2017. Which strike was your favourite? Let us know in the comments section below!

5. Theo Walcott - Chelsea

September 2016 saw Antonio Conte's Chelsea side travel to the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal ensured the Blues went back to west London empty-handed, running out 3-0 winners.

Theo Walcott's team goal was undeniably the strike of the day as he rounded off a beautiful Gunners move to double their lead.

A goal that pays testament to Arsenal's definitive style of play.

4. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - West Ham

The 23-year-old's career has somewhat stagnated, but he's scored some incredible goals throughout his Arsenal spell.

This one at London Stadium only added insult to injury to West Ham, but it showcased the winger's ability in one move.

If 'the Ox' can remain fit for the rest of the campaign, he could play a crucial role in Arsenal's title bid.

3. Aaron Ramsey - Tottenham

In a year of mixed fortunes for Aaron Ramsey, the midfielder's best goal for the club came during a 2-2 draw with Tottenham at White Hart Lane in March.

Ramsey opened the scoring when a cross from Hector Bellerin forced the Welsh international to improvise, expertly flicking the ball past Hugo Lloris.

2. Granit Xhaka - Hull City

Summer signing Granit Xhaka scored his first Premier League goal against Hull City and he certainly won't forget it in a hurry.

A thirty-yard wonder-strike saw Xhaka finish the scoring at the KCOM Stadium with an absolute rocket that almost burst the Hull net. He's gone on to net twice more for the Gunners.

1. Alexis Sanchez - Ludogrets

If Arsenal fans have one wish for 2017, it's for Alexis Sanchez to expand his stay at the Emirates Stadium. With moments like this, it's a mystery as to why Arsene Wenger isn't offering him a blank cheque.

His remarkable strike in the Champions League summed up the Chilean's ability. Control, finishing prowess and strength is here for all to see.
