Arsenal’s 2019 summer pre-season tour of the United States ended in defeat.
But still, it was a glorious and dramatic game against Real Madrid that had four goals, two red cards and, finally, a penalty shootout that saw the Gunners leave Washington DC defeated.
It was hardly your stereotypical friendly fixture.
Apart from it being a clash of two big players in European football and a complete anomaly in the context of pre-season friendlies, it was also a reunion of sorts for some of the players.
And the 30-year-old midfielder quickly took to Instagram to share a picture with his ex-teammate, Marcelo.
Ozil captioned it as “It was good to see you, bro” and then proceeded to thank all the supporters in the United States.
Both players played a part in the big clash even though neither made it onto the score sheet.
Ozil appears to be in good spirits moving into the new season, so could a period of revival be looming on the horizon?
