It's been a painful season for Arsenal, one that looks set to end with their lowest ever Premier League finish of the Arsene Wenger era, and we've found another reason for Gunners fans to find grievance with the downward-spiralling north London club - dribbles.

Indeed, it may not seem like a big deal but the ability to take on opponents with the ball at feet is a key part of any attack. Yet, Arsenal rank a somewhat modest tenth for completed dribbles in the Premier League this season, behind the likes of Leicester, Crystal Palace and West Ham to name just a few.

But which Gunners stars have been holding up their end of the bargain when it comes to ghosting past defenders? Who is the Emirates Stadium outfit's take-on master? Here's a rundown of Arsenal's top five dribblers in the Premier League so far this season, accompanied by the number of dribbles they've actually completed...

Alex Iwobi may not have exactly won over the Arsenal faithful but he's undoubtedly one of their most effective players with the ball at feet, completing 24 dribbles in 19 Premier League outings so far this season.

Not all of those have been starts though and if the Nigerian international can take on defenders more frequently but with the same consistency - 73% of his attempted dribbles have been completed this term - then the 21-year-old may begin to come good on his much-discussed potential.

Right now though, he still has four players to beat to become Arsenal's top man when running with the ball.

Alexandre Lacazette has endured a mixed debut season in north London, struggling to hold down a place in the starting XI and even finding himself essentially replaced mid-season by January signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Lacazette did provide nine goals in 22 starts before his injury though, and he's been largely effective when running with the ball as well, completing 25 dribbles this term to average more than one per match in the top flight.

Still though, the Frenchman - who Transfermarkt value at £49.5million - will have to improve to dislodge Aubameyang any time soon.

We often think of Mesut Ozil as more of a passer than someone who can slalom his way through opposition defences, but the German World Cup winner certainly has that in his locker and has shown it at times this season - averaging 1.4 dribbles per match in the Premier League.

And with Alexis Sanchez moving to Manchester United in January, the Gunners need that ability to ghost past defenders now more than ever from the club's last remaining truly talismanic entity.

Jack Wilshere's made the least Premier League appearances of any player on this list yet ranks second in Arsenal's dribble charts with an impressive 39. He also has the best take-on success rate of Arsenal's top five, with 81% of those the England international has attempted being completed.

Of course, driving play forward with darting dribbles from midfield has been a key feature of Wilshere's game since his younger years. It's proved effective this season too, which has witnessed arguably the best form since his breakthrough campaign, but whether that's enough to earn him a new contract at the Emirates Stadium remains to be seen.

Arsenal fans won't like it but unfortunately the stats don't lie - Alexis Sanchez has been their most prolific dribbler in the Premier League this season with a whopping 40 take-ons, despite leaving the club for Old Trafford midway though the campaign.

However, his number of dribbles per game is actually less than Wilshere's, and the Chilean took far more attempts than the England midfielder - his dribble completion rate being a somewhat modest 67%.

For Manchester United though, Sanchez's dribbling stats have vastly improved, his average per game more than doubling from 2.1 to a whopping 4.3. Not that it's done his overall form much good, mind.
