In an exclusive reported by Tutto Mercato, Arsenal are set to land one of Europe's top goalkeeping prospects with a move for AZ Alkmaar's Jasper Schendelaar.

What's the word?

Between Petr Cech, David Ospina and Emiliano Martinez, Arsenal have plenty of depth and quality between the sticks at the Emirates but they're set to sign a goalkeeper for the future this January.

Tutto Mercato reckon that the Gunners have already made contact with AZ Alkmaar to secure Jasper Schendelaar's signature, stealing a march on rival European clubs.

At just 16 years old he's unlikely to make a first team impact but with Petr Cech approaching the latter stages of his career, it makes sense to plan for seasons to come.

Schendelaar hasn't even made the first team breakthrough at AZ Alkmaar but is playing above his age group for their U19 and U21 sides.

The young starlet has also made 19 youth international appearances for the Netherlands, highlighting his potential for the future.

The Dutch have of course produced some famous Premier League goalkeepers over the years including Edwin van der Sar, Tim Krul  and Maarten Stekelenburg.

By investing in his future so young, Arsenal are staving off potential interest from the rest of Europe's top clubs and fans will be hoping that he can make an impact in the years to come.
