Talksport are reporting that German outfit Schalke are preparing to offer Peruvian winger Jefferson Farfan in exchange for out of favour Arsenal forward Andrei Arshavin .
Farfan, 27, is out of contract with the Bundesliga club at the end of the season and is unlikely to sign a new deal in hope of a move to a bigger European side. Schalke are unwilling to sell Farfan in January unless they have guarantees of a like-for-like replacement.
Arsenal’s record signing, Arshavin, has been earmarked by the German’s as the man to fill the Peruvian’s boots. The Russian is currently struggling to hold down a place in the Gunners starting XI and has become somewhat of a bit-part player. Arshavin, who is now 30, has failed to deliver a consistency of form that Arsene Wenger had bought him for in February 2009 with the player himself admitting he has only been ‘average’ at Arsenal.
Schalke could end up losing Farfan for nothing at the end of the season so a straight swap with Arsenal for Arshavin in January may appease both clubs and both players.
