The defender was one of a number of players on Arsene Wenger’s radar this summer, although proved to be another who elected to stay put.
Arsene Wenger was said to be chasing a right back over the summer to challenge Carl Jenkinson and replace Bacary Sagna long term, and it seems Juanfran was the name he landed upon.
But the 28-year-old has revealed he had no desire to quit his current club, despite the reported opportunity to earn higher wages.
And with four years left on the Spaniard’s contract, it doesn’t appear he will be leaving the Vicente Calderon any time soon.
“It is true that I had an offer from Arsenal that any player would have liked to have accepted,” Juanfran told marca.com.
“But I am very happy here.
“For me, as everyone knows, there is no better club than Atletico.”
Juanfran is the latest player to have had his name linked with a summer switch to the Emirates which ultimately didn’t work out.
Wenger was left frustrated in the summer as moves for Gonzalo Higuain, Wayne Rooney, Luis Suarez and Yohan Cabaye all fell flat.
Juanfran has made 94 appearances for Atletico since joining from Osasuna in 2011, scoring three goals in the process. He has also won five caps for the Spanish national team.
