Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin has said that teammate Mesut Ozil deserves a lot more credit for what he brings to the team.
Ozil has only scored once in 10 Premier League appearances this season, and has again been the subject of criticism following some disappointing performances away from home.
The German international was in fine form for the Gunners at the weekend, however, as he provided one assist in their 2-0 win over bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium.
Bellerin has claimed that only those that play alongside Ozil can fully understand the qualities that the 29-year-old brings to the team.
Bellerin told Arsenal’s official website:
“Mesut is someone who gets a lot of criticism, but the players who are around him are very happy to have him and play with him.
“He makes things easy for you. People sometimes talk about his body language, but he gives everything for this shirt. The players who play around him know that he makes everything so much easier.”
Ozil will see his Arsenal contract expire at the end of the season, and the attacker has been linked with a move to Manchester United – where he would link up with former boss Jose Mourinho.
Alexis Sanchez and Jack Wilshere are also among those that will see their Arsenal deals expire next summer.
