Arsenal are set to fight it out with Barcelona for Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur according to Juventus news outlet Tutto Juve.

What's the story?

Having just signed Bentancur's Uruguayan compatriot Lucas Torreira, Arsenal are keen to sign his midfield partner who is valued at £13.5million on Transfermarkt.

The 21-year-old joined the Italian champions last summer and made 20 appearances in Serie A and the tenacious central midfielder impressed for his country at the World Cup.

According to the report, Juventus are reluctant to sell, but having just forked out a huge sum to bring Cristiano Ronaldo to Turin, they could be tempted if a club makes the right offer.

Do Arsenal need him?

There is no doubting that Bentancur is a talented young player that would fit in well at Arsenal, but is central midfield really an area they need to invest in at the moment?

Having just signed Torreira and French youngster Matteo Guendouzi, in addition to existing midfielders Aaron Ramsey, Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Mesut Ozil, Arsenal are well-equipped in that area of the pitch.

New boss Unai Emery would be better off investing the money elsewhere in the squad even if he may be an expensive upgrade on Granit Xhaka.
