There is a distinct lack of an icon at Arsenal at the moment. The only man around the first XI who could be considered a legend is probably Petr Cech, who isn’t really an Arsenal legend.
And when you think of all the utter club heroes who played for Arsenal even ten years ago, in the middle of Arsene Wenger’s reign, the contrast is stark.
Arsenal do have some wonderful players, and the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez will become club legends in the same vein as Patrick Vieira and Tony Adams if they stay at the club long enough and lead The Gunners to a Premier League title or even a Champions League. But that looks some way off.
First, Arsene Wenger probably needs to invest in a striker. Someone to score goals. Someone to enter the list of all-time top goalscorers, perhaps.
Can you name the men who currently make up the top ten on that list?
