Chelsea fans want N’Golo Kanté back in a defensive role

Chelsea fans aren’t happy with manager Maurizio Sarri’s persistence in playing N’Golo Kanté as an attacking midfielder this season.

Chelsea were held to a 0-0 draw at West Ham United on Sunday and the club’s fans are calling for the Frenchman to be moved back into his usual defensive position.

Sarri currently plays with three defensive midfielders in his team, with Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic sitting deep and Kanté in an attacking position. If Kanté was to be moved back to his preferred defensive position then Kovacic would most likely be the one that faces the axe. Jorginho broke the record for the most passes ever in a Premier League match against West Ham with 180 and has fitted in well since joining Chelsea in the summer.

Chelsea face Liverpool twice this week in the Carabao Cup and Premier League respectively and a proper attacking midfielder could provide them with much needed firepower, especially with their current centre forward problems.

Ross Barkley looked in fine form when he came off the bench on Sunday and might be an option, as is Cesc Fabregas.
