Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has risked the wrath of the supporters of his former club by hinting on social media that he wants Arsenal to win the Premier League title – although it’s not clear whether he was joking.
The footballer turned pundit was responding to an Arsenal fan on Twitter when he stated his tip for the Premier League crown and spoke of his support for in-form England winger Theo Walcott.
Yes! “I want Arsenal to win the league” and bigging up Theo when plenty of you lot threw him weekly under the bus 2 of my faves! 😉 https://t.co/ST9w3J32BU

With the comment in quotation marks, though, it’s difficult to know whether Collymore was genuinely revealing his dream for the season or simply mocking the Arsenal fan he was responding too – although he does have a fair point on Walcott, who was criticised in the early weeks of the new season.
Arsenal seem to be a good tip for the title currently after winning six consecutive Premier League matches and drawing level on points with Manchester City at the top of the table on the weekend – a position they can make their own on Saturday with a victory over Middlesbrough – but the Gunners often fall apart late in the season.
As Arsene Wenger is in the final year of his contract in north London, a first Premier League triumph since 2004 would be the perfect way to see off the long-serving Frenchman.
