Dutch starlet distances himself from Arsenal switch

Adam Maher. AZ AlkmaarAZ Alkmaar midfielder Adam Maher has ruled out a summer move to Arsenal.

The Dutchman was linked with a switch to the Premier League during January, with the Gunners thought to be highly interested.

Due to the vast levels of interest in the 19-year-old, AZ have slapped an £8.5m price tag on his head in a bid to reduce speculation.

Arsenal have been linked with another move for his signature at the end of the season, but Maher insisted that he is not interested in moving to England:

“I have already said that I do not want to go (to Arsenal). I want a good stay in the Netherlands, at least another two to three years – I am only 19.” He is quoted by talkSPORT via NUSport.

He went on to state that he is looking to move on later this year, highlighting both PSV Eindhoven and Ajax as his preferred destinations:

“In the summer I expect there will be a realistic bid. It is certain that I will be leaving.”

“PSV is a nice club, but on the other hand I live in Amsterdam. Last summer and last winter I indicated I want to go to PSV, but PSV was the only club that wanted to sign me. But I can also play for Ajax (too).”

Maher has been in fine form for the Eredivisie side this term, notching five goals in ten appearances.

Despite being born in Morocco, the teenager elected to represent the Netherlands at international level and has won two caps so far.
