Former Arsenal attacker Gervinho has hit out at Arsene Wenger following his summer move to Roma.
The Ivorian international endured a two torrid seasons at the Emirates Stadium, failing to cement a regular starting position or match the expectations placed on his shoulders following a successful spell with Lille in France.
The 26-year-old ended his time in North London recently, reuniting with former manager Rudi Garcia at Roma.
Many were critical of Gervinho’s abilities during his time in England, but the versatile forward believes that Wenger was to blame for his woeful time in the Premier League.
“Wenger was not prepared to give it to me,” Gervinho told The Sun.
“Also my position on the wing was not what I was expecting and I wasn’t happy with it.
“It would have helped had he shown more confidence in me.”
Gervinho was hailed as one of European football’s top talents prior to his move to Arsenal, and he is now hoping to get his career back on track in Serie A.
The Gunners replaced the impish attacker with Mesut Ozil, who arrived in a deadline day club record move from Real Madrid.
Did Gervinho get a fair run at Arsenal? Or did he have more to offer?
