Former Arsenal forward Lukas Podolksi could become the next big name player to head to the Chinese Super League, with reports from Bild claiming that a Shanghai-based club have offered him a deal worth €9m(£6.85m)-per-season to relocate to East Asia.
The German World Cup winner is currently plying his trade in Turkey with Galatasaray after leaving the Emirates Stadium on a permanent basis last summer.
He has since performed relatively well in Istanbul, but reports claim that an unnamed Chinese club have offered him a massive salary to join the emerging Super League.
It’s understood that this team plays in the city of Shanghai, with both SIPG – managed by Sven-Goran Eriksson – and Shenhua – who recently signed Fredy Guarin – options
The Chinese top tier has been making headlines of late, with players such as Gervinho, Ramires, Paulinho and many others having been lured across from Europe by the vast salaries offered by the biggest clubs.
This month alone, Chinese Super League teams have spent £106m on new players, eclipsing the £104m splashed in the Premier League and more than quadrupling La Liga spending (£22m).
