Kevin Campbell has called on Arsene Wenger to stop “messing” around in the transfer market and sign top players to make Arsenal title contenders once again.
The Gunners chief is under increasing levels of pressure at the Emirates Stadium, with poor results having frustrated large sections of the club’s supporters.
Despite spending over £40m and £30m on Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez respectively during the past 18 months, Wenger’s perceived reluctance to splash the cash on big name players has been a consistent issue among supporters.
And Campbell has joined those calling for serious investment if the north London gaffer is truly focused on winning a first league title in over ten years:
“If Wenger is serious [about getting back to the top] he will go out and get who he needs in January. No messing around, go and get them, because Arsenal need them. They’ve needed it for years and it’s showing up [in their results], so go out and get them.” He told talkSPORT.
“Qualifying for the Champions League is not winning a trophy, and the fans want trophies. So unless you’re putting silverware on the sideboard you’re there to be shot at. And when the weakness of the team never gets addressed, and you expect the results to change, they never do.”
