Kicking off this list is Ligue 1 starlet Serge Aurier, dubbed by the tabloids as Arsenal’s priority right-back target as a likeminded replacement for Barcary Sagna.
The Toulouse full-back has just come to the end of a sensational campaign, breaking into the Cote D’Ivoire squad at the start of the season and amassing six goals and six assists in 34 French top flight outings.
The 22 year-old may lack the Arsenal man’s wealth of Premier League experience, but in other ways the two defenders are remarkably similar. Both have overcome their 5 foot 9 frames to be impressive forces in the air, with Aurier spending much of the season in his secondary centre-back role, and both boast phenomenal power and athleticism.
Likewise, Sagna is an intrinsic contributor to the Gunners’ build-up play – his Stadium Municipal counterpart is more than capable of carrying that torch, having averaged 47 passes, 1.4 successful dribbles and 1.1 accurate crosses per match this season.
Aurier is well aware that he’s outgrown his surroundings at Toulouse, and has resultantly stated his intentions to play in the Premier League next season – ideally with Arsenal, being a life-long Gooner.
His £7.5million price-tag is comfortable fee for the Emirates outfit, but prolonging the 7-cap Ivory Coast international’s move could prove costly, with PSG and Monaco also linked.
