Is it already time to start panicking for Arsenal? The club haven’t had anywhere near the impact on the transfer market that they and certainly their fans would have liked this summer and with little time left before the window shuts, surely the Gunners are going to have to start forking out for players.
The Alexandre Lacazette to Arsenal story is one that has been going on since well before this window but as of yet it, it has not been concluded. It would certainly be a deal to get the Emirates crowd on-side which looks as though needs to be done quickly after the team’s opening day loss to Liverpool.
Lacazette would solve the Gunners lack of a world class forward up front for sure, but some would argue that the spending shouldn’t end there. It could be a hectic end to the transfer window for the Arsenal hierarchy then and here at Football FanCast we think this FIVE could be signed alongside the Lyon man…
Per Mertesacker is injured and even when fit he’s nearing the end of his career. Rob Holding and Calum Chambers are very inexperienced at this level and the jury is out on Gabriel Paulista, leaving Laurent Koscielny as the only nailed on centre-half at the club. The latest defender linked is Simon Kjaer and he’d certainly bring some experience and quality to a shaky back line.
Would Kjaer be enough given the Gunners defensive issues? Then again is Arsene Wenger going to want to buy two centre-halves? Whatever transpires over the next couple of weeks there has been interest in the German international from Arsenal which has left him reportedly to train alone at Valencia while he waits on a decision, you can’t help but feel this should have been sorted ages ago.
Last season’s player of the year and one of the key factors behind Leicester’s stunning title win, Mahrez may feel it’s time to cash in on the quality he’s shown and grab a move. Leicester will find it hard this season to replicate 2015/16, that goes without saying, and the Algerian winger might see a move as a chance to prolong his career at the top of the league. Time will tell.
The Sun reports that the Gunners have already seen a bid turned down for the Juventus youngster. Lemina is a midfield player and spent last season on loan in Turin before making the move permanent this year so if Arsenal want him they’re going to have to up the ante. Lemina is a Gabonese international and would give the men from the Emirates a better physical presence in central midfield.
Another centre-half. Toprak has spent his whole career in Germany and despite being born in the country, he represents the Turkey national team for whom he has 23 caps. He’s been at Bayer Leverkusen since 2011 but may prove to be a cheaper option than Kjaer and Mustafi which Wenger might like, and the club are reportedly interested in him as an option.
