At some point in the next week Arsene Wenger is going to pour cold water over the rumours linking Luiz Gustavo with a move to Arsenal. For now, however, there remains hope among the club’s supporters that the Brazilian will be the first major signing of the summer.
And it shouldn’t end there; the club can’t afford to just go with what they have in the squad at present. Ahead of the international friendlies this week, a number of key players are said to have picked up injuries, though most optimists will be questioning their legitimacy knowing full well that this round of games are meaningless.
Arsenal are well short in defence with Thomas Vermaelen still out injured, and added firepower is an absolute must. The finances are there, and should little to no activity take place this week – let’s be honest, it’s likely – the atmosphere at the Emirates is sure to be spiky to say the least.
