Despite the signing of Mesut Ozil, the Arsenal squad is stretched and severely lacking numbers. The injuries that have built up over the past month have given Arsene Wenger plenty of time to address the need for more bodies in a number of positions, and there is certainly a degree of frustration from supporters that little was done.
Mathieu Flamini has arrived on a free transfer and may make a positive impact. But with the resources that are available at the club, Wenger could have done with a number of transfer targets that were linked with a move to the Emirates in the past.
Significantly, none of them are players who would command fees above £20million – the area Wenger is most uncomfortable venturing into.
