Forget Nolito, Arsenal should be targeting third best player in Europe

Leicester City’s start to the season has defied all logic. From a late surge that kept them just clear of what looked for a while like being certain relegation back to the Championship in 2014/15, the Foxes have truly kicked on, with the arrival of Claudio ‘The Tinkerman’ Ranieri looking more and more astute as the days go by.

Naturally Leicester’s sky-high position of third is down to, largely, the players on the pitch, and although nine goals in nine games hit-man Jamie Vardy has been dominating the headlines, Riyad Mahrez has been their best performer. And WhoScored rank him as the THIRD BEST player in Europe’s top five leagues this season, with his seven goals and five assists enough to slot him in behind global stars Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Neymar.

Even more interesting is that a reported Arsenal target for January, Nolito, is ranked fifth, two place below Mahrez, who himself has been aligned with the Gunners in recent times.

Seems like an easy call for Arsene Wenger, then!
