The Dutch centre-back has been one of Scottish football’s standout performers since his arrival in Glasgow last year, and has recently been linked with an £8m move to the Emirates Stadium.
With Laurent Koscielny an injury worry at the heart of his backline, Arsene Wenger has already confessed that he will be looking to add a new enforcer to his ranks in 2015, with the failure to snap up a replacement for former captain Thomas Vermaelen having hit home already this term.
Although Mats Hummels of Dortmund is a rumoured target, Parlour wants Arsenal to move for Van Dijk:
“Van Dijk would be a good signing,” he told talkSPORT. “Arsenal look really short at the back. Koscielny is out now for a little while, which is another blow.
“Arsene is just hoping he can get through to January. He’s got to go out and buy a couple of defenders.
“He needs to strengthen if they’re going to have a serious run on the Premier League title. You need to have a big squad.”
Van Dijk has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League for some time, with Manchester City thought to be another side watching the Netherlands U-21 international.
