Professional footballers have to be confident. A part of competitive sports demands the ability to back your own ability, with shrinking violets very rarely making it on the biggest stage. And it appears that Mesut Ozil is certainly someone who believes in his own skills, with the Arsenal man claiming that winning the Ballon d’Or in the next few years is possible for him…
“Should I continue to improve and stay fit, I want to get my hands on the Ballon d’Or in the coming years,” he is quoted by The Metro.
“I am a world champion and play at a top club in the Premier League. I am convinced that it can work out.”
Okay then, Mesut! Although a supremely talented footballer, Ozil has struggled to even nail down a spot in Arsene Wenger’s Gunners team since his £42.5m move in 2013, so such ambitions appear a little pie in the sky right now.
After all, the Arsenal ace would have to get in ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo – who has scored over 200 goals for Real since 2009, Lionel Messi – arguably the greatest every player to play the game and even international colleague Manuel Neuer!
