Arsenal are reportedly close to securing a £31million deal for Palermo striker Paulo Dybala, according to the Daily Star.
According to reports in Italy, Arsene Wenger has been keen on the Argentine striker for some time and is hoping to complete a deal for the 21-year-old in January, although Palermo are eager to keep him at the club for the remainder of the season and would be open to negotiating a smaller fee next summer.
And the Serie A club’s owner Maurizio Zamparini insists Dybala can be one of the best players in the world, and has previously compared him to Manchester City goal machine Sergio Aguero.
He said: “Within two years, he’s going to be better than Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi and Ibrahimovic.
“It would take €40m (£31m) to take him away from us. He’s the best striker in Serie A.”
Southampton are also reportedly interested in the youngster.
