According to German outlet SportBild, reported via the Metro, Bayern Munich are determined to win the race to Nicolas Pepe’s signature despite interest from other top clubs, including Arsenal.

Pepe has been in scintillating form so far this season with six goals and six assists already under his belt in just nine Ligue 1 outings for Lille. These stunningly prolific numbers certainly haven’t escaped the notice of some of Europe’s biggest clubs who may well battle it out for the 23-year-old’s signature in January, which will likely drive the winger’s price tag up much higher than his £14.4 million Transfermarkt valuation.

It would take a big effort on the Gunners’ part to beat off the competition and secure Pepe’s services, and it has to be questioned whether or not the attacker would be worth the expenditure. With the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mesut Ozil and an in-form Alex Iwobi already in situ at the Emirates Stadium, bolstering Unai Emery’s attacking contingent is a job that could probably wait until the summer.

Instead, the North London club ought to spend the winter transfer window seeking a new centre-back.

What do you think, Arsenal fans - would Pepe represent a wise winter investment?
