Arsenal's defensive woes were evident during the closing stages of last season.

Shkodran Mustafi suffered plenty of online criticism from fans after he was caught out of position numerous times.

The jury is still out on the centre-back, but due to the long-term injury absence of Laurent Koscielny, the defence is an area that needs addressing.

New manager Unai Emery has already recruited right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer from Juventus.

Now, reports have emerged suggesting that Chelsea defender David Luiz is back on the club's radar.

Last Thursday, a report from Le10sport claimed that the Gunners have had an £18m bid rejected by their Premier League rivals.

It would not be a huge surprise if Luiz leaves Stamford Bridge this summer, though, after falling down the pecking order under manager Antonio Conte.

The Brazilian has plenty of experience and has adopted a winning mentality over the years having earned four league titles so far in his career.

However, there are still question marks over his erratic decision-making on the pitch, plus the fact that he is 31 years old.

If Emery wants to shape a team for the future, then recruiting younger players should be a priority.

On the other hand, there is no denying that Luiz has the quality and ability to be a solid figure that can also play out from the back.

With all of this in mind, should Arsenal recruit the Brazilian?
