When you've fallen afoul of Mauricio Pochettino, you certainly know about it. While the Argentine has never discussed such matters in public, he's developed a recurring strategy of slowly freezing out first-team players that he feels he can no longer quite trust, for whatever reason.

Kyle Walker provided perhaps the first most notable instance towards the end of last season, when he found himself benched for Tottenham's biggest games. But we've seen that replicated throughout the 2017/18 campaign with Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose as well - two players whose futures in north London remain unclear.

A surprise victim of this approach though, comes in the form of Victor Wanyama. At first it seemed Pochettino was simply nursing the Kenyan powerhouse back into the starting XI after a lengthy injury layoff, but Wanyama first returned to action in January - yet still finds himself behind Eric Dier in the defensive midfield pecking order.

Recent reports from The Daily Mail have even claimed Tottenham are ready to part him this summer, alongside Alderweireld, Rose and Mousa Dembele.

It's a surprising situation considering Wanyama has been a consistently impressive performer for the Lilywhites, and one that Tottenham's bitter local rivals Arsenal should look to capitalise on.

After all, although we don't know who will replace Arsene Wenger next season, his successor will surely view adding defensive discipline and brute physicality to this lightweight Gunners team as one of his first ports of call in the transfer market.

Wanyama - who Transfermarkt value at £27million - would remedy both of those needs and could accordingly prove to be a key figure in the new era at Arsenal, revolutionising a side that could prove far more resilient once solidity is added to its spine.
