According to The Sun, Crystal Palace are considering launching a £10m bid to sign Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck in the January transfer window.

At 27 years of age, Welbeck has reached the stage in his career where he needs to be playing week in week out, especially if he wants to maintain his involvement in the England national team set-up.

Whether that means exiting the Emirates Stadium - where he is currently behind the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the pecking order - in January or when his current contract with the Gunners expires at the end of the season, Welbeck’s days in north London look to be numbered.

Not only would his immediate departure leave Unai Emery’s squad short of an experienced third choice striker, but they’d also be lacking pacy wide men too.

However, before Arsenal rush out to sign someone to replace the former Manchester United man, they ought to offer some of their most exciting young prospects the chance to take up Welbeck’s berth in the squad.

With Reiss Nelson currently impressing on loan and Emile Smith Rowe enjoying a fine debut campaign with the senior squad, the Gunners already have options to who could fill in for the 42-cap England man. Emery ought to back these young stars to be able to make the step up.

Though, in the chase for the top four and titles, the club may prefer to buy in more proven options.

What do you think, Arsenal fans - should the club sign someone to replace Welbeck or give his place to a talented but inexperienced youngster?
