Gervinho has revealed that he hates Arsenal and Arsene Wenger for the way he was treated at the Emirates Stadium.
The Ivorian attacker joined the Gunners from Ligue 1 side Lille in 2011 after carving out a reputation as one of the very best young attackers in European football.
However, his spell in north London was not a fruitful one, as he struggled for game time under Wenger and failed to live up to the billing he received upon his arrival.
Gervinho spent just two seasons with Arsenal before joining Roma last year in a £7m deal.
He’s since thrived in Italy under Rudi Garcia – who coached him at Lille – bagging an impressive 17 goals and assists for the Serie A giants.
The 27-year-old says he’s thrilled to feel truly valued and that he hates Arsenal for the treatment he received from Wenger:
“He [Wenger] never had confidence in me,” he is quoted by The Express. “As a child I dreamed of playing for Arsenal, because I loved them.
“Garcia doesn’t differentiate between those who are playing and those who aren’t playing. That’s important for a player.
“He doesn’t only speak to those who are playing, he talks to everyone as there are 25 players in the squad, not just 11.
“Now I hate them for the way Wenger treated me.
“However, I regretted leaving the club after such a short time without being able to show my worth, which I’m now doing at Roma instead.”
