What are two things Arsenal love? Players from France and getting one over on Spurs… and that is all rolled together in one neat package in the shape of Samuel Umtiti. The Lyon defender has emerged as a target for the Gunners of late as Arsene Wenger expands his search for fresh defensive options, with the Emirates Stadium chief believed to have been impressed by the 21-year-old’s showings for the current Ligue 1 leaders.
We’ll forgive the Gooners that don’t know who Umtiti is yet, as French football is… erm… not mainstream (that’s a nice euphemism for rubbish!), but he’s already a hero (sort of) in the red half of north London. Back in 2013 the powerful defender punished Spurs with a simply stunning goal at White Hart Lane, as he strode on to the ball and larruped an unstoppable left-footed half-volley into the top corner.
The video below shows just how special the goal was! Didn’t want him at Arsenal before this? Surely those Arsenal fans will have changed their tune now!
