Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted to the media that Mesut Ozil will remain at the club until the end of the season, reports FourFourTwo.

What's the word?

Throughout the season, the biggest questions marks regarding potential exits have been hanging over Alexis Sanchez and Ozil at Arsenal.

Both are stars in Wenger's first team, and both come to the end of their current contracts in the summer.

Widespread media publications, including BBC Sport, have reported that Sanchez is on the verge of joining Manchester United, but it has all gone quiet around Ozil.

That could be because the midfielder is not going anywhere in the January window.

Well, that is according to Wenger, who told reporters in a press conference:

"In February? Yes, of course [Ozil will be an Arsenal player]."

Do they need him?

If reports are to be believed, the Gunners are about to lose one of their best players to a fierce Premier League rival.

With that in mind, the news that Ozil is staying will be a welcome relief to the supporters.

The German World Cup winner has often been criticised for going missing in big games, but this season he has stepped up to the plate.

If Ozil does in fact stay put beyond January, then at least he can focus his mind solely on football matters for the rest of the season.

Is that the end of the rumours, then?

Not quite. Keeping the midfielder this month is a big positive for the North London outfit, but there is nothing to say that he will not leave in the summer.

Arsenal have a six-month window to tie Ozil down to a new contract, but if he does not commit to fresh terms, then he will be allowed to leave for nothing.

To make matters worse, the midfielder could potentially join up with Sanchez at Old Trafford for the 2018-19 campaign.

If that happened, not only would Arsenal's two best players be competing for their rivals, but the Gunners would have missed out on a chunk of money for one of them.
