As reported by The Sun, Arsenal are ready to battle with Tottenham Hotspur for the signature of Stevenage defender Ben Wilmot in the upcoming summer transfer window.

What's the story?

When it comes to clubs like Arsenal, the headlines are often filled with eye-popping, big money moves for some of the best players across Europe, but just as important is ensuring they secure the futures of the brightest and best homegrown talents in England.

One such player they're eager to sign is 18-year-old Ben Wilmot, who has made a senior breakthrough at League Two Stevenage this season.

That's according to The Sun, who say that despite having a £1m bid rejected for the defender, the Gunners are ready to return for him when the summer transfer window opens.

However, they'll face serious competition from arch-rivals Tottenham, report the paper.

Who is he?

Wilmot has only recently made his first starts in senior league football, first appearing in League Two for Stevenage in January. Since then he's made eight starts in total, part of a 13 game total in all competitions.

In that time though he's impressed with committed performances and has helped his team to five clean sheets already.

It's hard to know what direction his career will take in the future, but the fact that Arsenal and Tottenham are reportedly interested speaks volumes about his potential.

One thing is for sure, whichever club misses out on his signature will clearly be fearful he could turn out to be a hit at the other.
