In Focus: Wenger is looking for the next Spanish Arsenal superstar

As reported by Spanish outlet Marca, Arsenal are preparing to make a January move for Barcelona starlet Jose Arnaiz.

What’s the story?

Arsenal have found a fair amount of success over the years with Spanish talent in their first team. The likes of Cesc Fabregas, Santi Cazorla, Mikel Arteta and Hector Bellerin have all become fan favourites at various stages of Arsene Wenger’s reign.

Now he’s on the hunt for a new Spanish star to take the Emirates by storm.

Marca report that the Gunners are reading to activate the release clause of Barcelona winger Jose Arnaiz, which stands at £17.75m.

The left-sided player only joined the Catalan giants in the summer but has found first-team chances limited and the outlet reports he could be tempted by a move to London.

Who is he?

Arnaiz burst onto the Spanish scene last season in La Liga 2, performing regularly for Real Valladolid and helping their push for a promotion play-off place.

He scored 12 goals and provided 4 assists for the Spanish club before winning his big move to Barcelona earlier this year.

He’s played twice for the first-team at the Nou Camp, scoring in both matches in the Copa del Rey, but has so far been unable to win a place in the team in more illustrious competitions. In the Barcelona B team though he’s continued his fine form of last year, netting six times and providing four assists.

The 22-year-old is certainly showing potential and under the guidance of Arsene Wenger could take his game to a new level.

Can he follow in the footsteps of Arsenal’s Spanish former favourites?
