Arsenal came so close again last night. But the reality is that they’ve crashed out of the Champions League last-16 stage for the fifth consecutive year after losing on away goals to Monaco.
It was supposed to be the best possible draw for the Gunners. Instead it became a complete and utter nightmare.
And the last thing you’d expect Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger to admit after the game is that they’d probably be better off doing what arch rivals Tottenham do each year.
Yep, that’s right. Wenger reckons the Gunners would be better off playing in the Europa League instead of the Champions League. If this isn’t a face palm moment then I don’t know what is.
He said: “Perhaps it would be better not to go out like this and make the Europa League – we would be more likely to win.”
Blimey. Not exactly what Arsenal fans would want to hear from their manager, is it? At what stage did it dawn on Wenger that being like Tottenham would make them better off?
Does this mean Arsenal are going to do all they can to AVOID finishing in the top four now? Could Spurs take advantage of this and sneak in to the top four instead?
So many questions, very little answers. Arsenal fans right now are like…
But Spurs fans be like…
