Jack Wilshere will undergo a minor ankle operation which will rule him out of England’s summer friendlies, Arsene Wenger has confirmed.
The Arsenal midfielder is suffering from pain in his ankle and Wenger says although the problem is not a serious one, it needs an operation when the season is over.
Wilshere has been able to take his place on the bench in recent weeks and Wenger has been using him sparingly until he gets the pin from a previous operation removed.
Wenger says he will be out for three weeks but it will rule him out of Roy Hodgson’s England squad for the friendly games against the Republic of Ireland and Brazil.
“He will have small mild surgery after the season. At the moment Jack plays with painkillers and I use him only when it is really needed,” said Wenger.
“It is a very small, small, small one (operation), taking out a pin. It is a two to three weeks job. It will not be a problem.”
