El Chiringuito had said that the France international was very close to a move to north London, but RMC have said that is not the case.

Which club was Jens Lehmann signed from in January 2003?

However, they have admitted the relevant parties – one assumes that means Arsenal, Atletico and Lemar’s camp – are in talks over the 24-year-old, even if an accord between the player and the two clubs is some way off.

Balance

This is not the first time the Gunners have been in for the former AS Monaco forward – they attempted to take him to the Emirates Stadium in 2018, and even made a bid for him before he eventually completed his move to Los Rojiblancos.

Since moving to the Spanish capital, Lemar has not had the best of times. In 64 games for Atletico, he has managed just three goals and six assists, and this term he has started just nine matches in La Liga. He has struggled to adapt, and it appears that his time may be coming to an end with Diego Simeone’s men.

However, his form in France indicates that this is a player of the highest quality. In his last two seasons in Ligue 1, he provided 22 assists and also bagged himself 11 goals. He has 22 caps for his country, too, and was even included in the squad that won the World Cup in Russia in 2018.

Right now, left wing is a position in which Arsenal are struggling. Gabriel Martinelli and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have both taken up that role, but neither are completely comfortable there, and Mikel Arteta appears to be focused on using Bukayo Saka at left-back.

Bringing in Lemar would add some much-needed balance to this Arsenal side. Nicolas Pepe is the man for the right wing, and with the Frenchman on the opposite flank the new Gunners boss would have a symmetric forward line that could complement whoever is chosen to feature at centre-forward.

Currently valued at £27m by Transfermarkt, it remains to be seen what fee Atletico would look for, but Lemar is still a player with plenty of quality despite his recent poor form. Arteta could do a lot worse, that’s for sure.

Meanwhile, Valencia are eyeing this Arsenal midfielder.
