The Ivory Coast international knows the Arsenal gaffer well, having amassed 326 appearances during his seven years at Arsenal – featuring alongside Sol Campbell at centre-back during their legendary ‘Invincibles’ campaign – and won three major trophies under the Frenchman.
The 33 year-old, who has made just one Premier League outing for the Reds so far this season, recently told reporters; “I do see Wenger in him [Rodgers] – because they’re so intelligent.Like Arsene, he’s always there at training, trying to improve things. His style of player is also similar. He always wants us to pass the ball and keep playing.
“He also knows how to speak to players and how to get the best out of them. He will prove that, because he will come out of this hard time.”
There are certainly similarities between the two Premier League gaffers in terms of philosophy, and both have suffered from rather poor starts to the current season.
Wenger’s Arsenal are in eighth place after losing to Manchester United last weekend, whilst Rodgers’ Reds have plummeted all the way down to twelfth in the absence of star striker Daniel Sturridge.
