Arsenal, it seems, are close to signing Flamengo defender Pablo Mari.
Globo Esporte first appeared to share the news, saying that the 26-year-old was on his way to London, whilst Nicolo Schira then revealed that the Gunners would be paying €10m (£8.4m) and that he would sign a contract until 2024 – although Sky Sports claim that a loan deal is far more likely.
With the deal within touching distance of completion the Emirates outfit’s supporters have been talking about their potential new arrival, and it seems they are torn on whether they are happy to see him join them.
Many are delighted with the apparent new addition.
He was very good against Liverpool. He could turn out to be unknown Toure or Koscielny

It’s safe to say we’ve got the smart and tough Mertesacker.

😂😂 as an arsenal fan i just finished watching panlo Mari’s video and I definitely know he is strong and better than Mustafi. Nice addition .

This could be another master stroke ala Martinelli. As long as he puts his body on the line, puts the ball into row Z, stands goalside of who is marking and doesn’t lose track of where his opponent is, then we will have a 1000% upgrade instantly.

Mari had a good 2019 with Flamengo in Brazil, playing in 22 matches in the league as they finished top, whilst also appearing in six Copa Libertadores games – Flamengo also triumphed in that trophy as well.
Other supporters, though, are not as happy.
He’s no use. Couldn’t get a game for City even when kompany gone and they had donkey Stones.. if any use City who’s defence has cost them league would of kept him but he’s probably our level now as we are 10th. No better than Mustafi. Igor Stephanovs rings to mind

It’s hard to get excited about Pablo Marí. He’s 26, and never played in a top league. Yes, he’s had success at Flamengo, but the Brazilian League is a world away from the Premier League. Seems like another bargain basement defender for Arsenal. Hopefully I’m proved wrong. #afc pic.twitter.com/5Xc96earWn

Even though he is 26 years old, he had only played 32 matches in any country’s top flight prior to making the switch to Brazil.
With the deal looking close to completion, it remains to be seen whether he will prove to be a good addition.
