Mega Arsenal transfer boost: Mahrez wants Gunners move amid Chelsea speculation

Riyad Mahrez is eager to leave Leicester for Arsenal before the close of the transfer window, but will not force the Foxes’ hand by demanding a transfer.

The Algeria international was the Premier League’s standout player as the King Power Stadium outfit clinched the most unlikely of title wins last term, and was duly named as the PFA Player of the Year following his haul of 17 goals and 11 assists.

And while N’Golo Kante has moved on and Jamie Vardy has been aligned with a transfer, Mahrez’s future has remained relatively settled up until the last 24 hours after pictures of the player the same hotel as Chelsea boss Antonio Conte surfaced.

Even though this has prompted speculation that he could be the next big name star to sign for the Blues, French football journalist, Le Sphinx (@Ilyesramdani1), has taken to Twitter to reveal that Mahrez wants to join Arsenal, but that he’s not willing to force Leicester to let him move on:

He tweeted: “With Twitter, I’m afraid to pronounce the name of Mahrez in the street and hundreds of Arsenal fans surround me. “Any update?”

“After that, it will have escaped anyone that player mature in silence and never said or even implied that he wanted to remain…

“But he absolutely refused to go to the tussle with a club for whom he has a lot of recognition. (And who obviously wishes to him)

“Therefore expressed it its position in the different parts (his wish to sign for Arsenal) but it will not force the hand of Leicester.”

His tweets are translated from French to English, but clearly intimate that Mahrez ‘wishes’ to sign for Arsenal, backing up recent claims from Le Buteur that a deal is being worked on.

Arsenal are not short of attacking midfield options, but given the 25-year-old’s obvious talents he would be a welcome addition at the Emirates Stadium.
