12-year-old Arsenal fan Charlie Middleton tragically recently passed away following a long battle with cancer.
During his battle with the disease, Mesut Ozil met the young Gooner on numerous occasions, inviting him to the Emirates Stadium several times, giving him access to the German’s personal box for home games and inviting him as a guest to the 2017 FA Cup final, when the North London club ran out 2-1 winners over Chelsea.
Over this time the pair struck up a fond relationship as Charlie got to know his World Cup-winning hero

Following the sad news of Charlie’s death, the Gunners’ No. 10 took to Instagram to pay tribute to the young supporter.

The Arsenal playmaker posted three photos of himself alongside Charlie, as well as a heartfelt message expressing his sorrow at his passing.
Ozil is likely to feature for the Gunners this weekend as Unai Emery’s side head to Crystal Palace looking to extend their winning run in all competitions to twelve games.
