New club, same problem for Arsenal misfit

Gervinho

Gervinho is at it again, and it seems that despite having finally moved away from Arsenal, his performance in front of goal is still dubious to say the least.

He is a player who has garnered an unfortunate reputation as the man who never can. Gervinho became famous following his move to Arsenal from Lille. There was much promise surrounding the Ivorian, who had achieved success in front of goal at his previous clubs, and the Gunners certainly were hopeful of a much-needed prolific striker.

What they got instead however, was a player where the phrase “he couldn’t hit a barn door with a banjo” could not be more apt. In 2 seasons at the club, and 46 Premier Legaue appearances, Gervinho mustered 9 goals in total and as a result the star of many memes and other social media ridicule.

Arsene Wenger eventually sold him on for an impressive £8 million to Italian side Roma, and as evidenced by his failed one-on-one efforts in the video below, it has been a good bit of business by the French manager despite the loss incurred.
