Arsenal fans have endured a difficult week, suffering back-to-back Premier League defeats against Everton and Manchester City, but the biggest concern for the Gunners is the uncertainty on the future of two of their star players.
Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are both entering the final 18 months of their deals at the Emirates Stadium and whilst negotiations rumble all, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal can keep their two most expensive signings in North London.
Two of the best players in the Premier League, Ozil and Alexis would both be incredibly difficult to replace but Arsenal legend Ray Parlour believes finding a successor to the Chilean would be a more challenging task.
In an interview with Squawka, Parlour said:
“It’s difficult, Özil’s been brilliant for the club as well, but Sanchez for me, slightly, would get the nod just for his work rate, the way he scores goals, is involved in the good play,”
“Ideally you want to keep both it’s as simple as that. You’ve got try and break the bank for both if you’re going to go forward. You don’t want to be losing your best players, I think Arsenal now are in a position to do that but obviously they need to get signed up quickly.”
“I’m sure they’re trying to get a deal done now, straight after Christmas and get the tied up on long-term contracts. Hopefully going forward that will give Arsenal a better chance of maybe competing in the Premier League and obviously the Champions League.”
Alexis has found a new lease of life leading the line for Arsenal this season, scoring 14 goals, whilst Mesut Ozil has also improved his form in front of goal and netted his first career hat-trick in a 6-0 drubbing of Ludogorets in the Champions League.
