Denis Suarez appeared a player Unai Emery was desperate to get at Arsenal. The transfer saga continued for the whole of the January transfer window, right until the announcement on deadline day when the Gunners finally got their man.
It seemed a no-brainer, with Emery having worked with the Spaniard in his time at Sevilla, and the pair having an understanding of each other from years ago. Unfortunately though, it’s not worked out that way.
Suarez made his debut from the bench in a 3-1 defeat at Manchester City and hasn’t started a single game for Gunners in his time on loan. As the second half of the season went on, Suarez made fewer substitute appearances, and has recently been left out altogether.
The Spaniard took to Twitter to announce his departure, explaining that a recurring groin injury has kept him out of the squad and that he won’t be fit to see out the rest of the season, meaning he is due to leave the Gunners and return to parent club Barcelona.
The deal will surely remind fans of Kim Kallstrom’s loan move to North London, where he similarly spent his time battling injuries, though he did make one start and even scored an FA Cup semi-final penalty.
Some Arsenal fans took to twitter to compare the two signings…
I’d say this beats Kim kallstrom for the worst prem loan signing of all time https://t.co/vULNJCOLFy

Kim Kallstrom had a broken back and still managed to make more impact than this dude.

Denis Suarez will go down as one of our most pointless signings ever. We signed Kim Kallstrom with a broken back but at least he helped us eventually.

It is amazing that we signed Kim Kallstrom at 33 years of age, even though WE KNEW he had a back injury, yet he still ended up doing more for Arsenal than Denis Suarez, a 25 year old who made 27 appearances to help Barcelona win the double last season!
Football is strange. ??

Denis Suarez has surpassed Kim Kallstrom as the most pointless signing. People trust this process ???

We’ve actually outdone the Kim Kallstrom deal. Unreal

Kim Kallstrom was a better January deal than Denis Suarez, and he was signed on loan with a broken back ?
