PSG serve January transfer blow to Arsenal and become favourites for Draxler

As reported by Paris outlet Le Parisien, Paris Saint-Germain are set to beat Arsenal to the signature of German international Julian Draxler.

What’s the story?

It was reported earlier this week by the Sunday Express that Arsenal were interested in the signing of Draxler, but those hopes appear to be dashed by the latest reports emerging from France.

Le Parisien report that PSG are now favourites for his signature given that they’ve kept in contact with his representatives since the summer. The outlet also reports that his asking price could now be as low as £25m.

That’s a blow to Arsenal fans who were hoping the January transfer window would be an opportunity to secure talent that could fire them to title glory.

Why the hype?

The German international spent five successful years at Schalke before a big money move to Wolfsburg.

It’s on the international scene that fans across Europe will know him best, excelling for Germany in major tournaments already so early in his career. At the age of 23 he already has 27 caps for his country and has won a World Cup.

He can play left, right or central in attacking midfield positions, offering good versatility for prospective clubs.

Not quite fitting in at Wolfsburg since his move, he was recently dropped for their trip to Bayern Munich, sparking this fresh wave of transfer rumours.
