Former Arsenal forward Charlie Nicholas has claimed that the Gunners "are broken defensively", and does not think that Arsene Wenger's side will make the EFL Cup final.

Arsenal will travel to Chelsea for the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final on Wednesday night off the back of a 4-2 defeat at Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup.

The capital side have also only won two of their last eight in the Premier League, which has seen them lose ground on the top four.

Pundit Nicholas has said that his former team are capable of causing problems in the final third of the field, but has criticised Wenger's defence.

Indeed, the 56-year-old does not hold much hope for the Gunners ahead of their trip to Chelsea in the League Cup.

Nicholas told Sky Sports:

"Arsenal can have a day when the front three click and they're fantastic going forward, but they are broken defensively.

"I don't see too much hope for Arsenal on Wednesday and I just hope they can nick a goal to keep the tie going."

Arsenal will return to Premier League action with a trip to Bournemouth this weekend, before welcoming Crystal Palace ahead of the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final at the Emirates Stadium on January 24.
